"There is nothing else out there like On Two Fronts by Sgt Adam Fenner and Lance Taubold. It's not a book about war; it's a book about people, about separation, about living, home, friends, love, and heartache. I love this book--it's the real life day to day and human element that goes beyond places, facts, figures, and politics. It's a story for those who have served and for those who have stayed home. On Two Fronts is for everyone out there to understand what it is to serve--and what it is to be the one home praying. From the beautiful cover to the last page--it's a book that touches everyone alive today."
Heather Graham, NY Times Bestselling Author
When two unlikely friends are separated by war, they must learn to cope with the effect it will have on their lives, their futures, and their relationship.
Lance, a gay Las Vegas entertainer, who has never felt the effects of war, must come to grips with the reality of Adam’s deployment as he struggles with his own conflicting and complex emotions, and the lingering question of whether or not their friendship will survive… or if Adam will.
Adam, a veteran of the war in Iraq, must face a new threat in a new environment. Will he be able to endure the changing nature of his relationship with Lance and the constantly changing tactical environment presenting a daily threat upon his life and of his fellow soldiers?
On Two Fronts, written only moments after the events occur, tackles the reality of war on the most personal of levels. The reader follows Lance and Adam, living the story through their eyes, experiencing the constant fluctuating doubts and emotions and the extraordinary lengths friends will go to. It is told from their two perspectives to capture the honest human elements of war from the experience of someone on the ground and someone left behind.

On Two Fronts eBook Adam Fenner Lance Taubold
This is one of the hardest book reviews I've ever had to write. I just have too much to say! Complex relationships, human psychology, eye-opening facts about the military and the nature of war. I never realized how much time soldiers spend actually waiting for action, and I try to imagine living like that-routine exercises, daily tasks, tedium...never knowing when everything can change in the blink of an eye when you're attacked, or going into combat. Adam did a great job capturing the feel of Afghanistan, its terrain and people, and Lance did a great job capturing the loneliness and fear of being on the "second front." I really felt for him when he was crying and praying for his mom to help protect Adam. I talk to my Mom too and miss her every day.Luckily the book is interspersed with comments by both writers, and I loved how humorous some of them were. Especially the eye-rolling! it helped me as a reader because the book is very intense and raises so many questions. I feel as if I could talk to the authors for hours going over everything, and there would still be so much I know I could never understand.
If you have a loved one in the military you'll really be able to relate to this story. If not, you'll learn what it's like. A great book.

On Two Fronts eBook Adam Fenner Lance Taubold Reviews
This book is a wonderful and innovative way to tell experiences of war. I cannot wait for the movie to come out. I was with Sgt. Adam Fenner on COP Najil and I can attest to the accuracy and honesty of the events he described in his letters. "Doc" Fenner was admired and respected by all the men in his platoon, who truly depended upon him for all of their medical needs and knew he would be there to save them if they were wounded. Time and again, Sgt. Fenner performed his duties heroically and skillfully during very difficult incidents where bring a skilled medic was not enough but to be a seasoned veteran soldier was needed to handle the situation. This book gives his account of these experiences and it was well worth the read. I couldn't put it down!
Adam and Lance provide a unique method of presenting their stories of the deployment to Afghanistan. Adam's perspective as the Soldier deploying accurately reflects what many of us experienced and thought about during that deployment(I was at FOB Mehtar Lam...otherwise known in the book as "Meth Lab"). The fact that they were so open with many honest, personal thoughts speaks volumes. Lance's insights gave me a better perspective of how my own family and friends must have felt but have never expressed. I particularly liked the commentary each did on each others writing. It gave one a sense that they were actually conducting an interview side by side. In addition, the ability to link to photos and videos was a very nice touch. If you want to hear about very personal war experiences that are presented in a unique style, pick this one up. It will keep you engaged and interested from start to finish.
A week ago, if someone had told me that they were a part of the invasion of Iraq and had gone to Afghanistan, I might have replied with a apathetic "Oh, wow" Or, arguably worse, a generic and unattached, "Thank you..." I say unattached because that's really how we all see the military serving overseas, right? A distant body of people. Statistics on a television screen. Every once in a while a face will accompany the numbers. But many of us will have no idea who that person is, or the life events that are missed because they were fighting to keep us -- and essentially the entire free world -- safe.
That's another generic term "keep us safe." Do we even know what we're being kept safe from? Part of the stories that stood out to me were about how the women are treated in Afghanistan. I've never experienced anything like that in my life -- and I hope I never do. The reason I haven't been treated like this is because of people like you who are brave enough and willing to sacrifice. A lot.
Many of the stories were frustrating, disturbing... and sad. I didn't realize all the waiting that is involved over there. Or, the politics that, even across the world, seem to seep into strategies and hinder progress.
The writing in this book is very powerful.
I don't know why anyone who reads this wouldn't see through the bulls***, swearing and cold correspondences to see that there's a lot of heart here.
It is safe to say this is the first book of its kind that I have read. I really like the perspective of two friends describing their experience during the deployment of one of them. I can relate to Lance as we are about the same age. Adam is closer to my sons' ages. Lance's concern and love for Adam shines through. Adam's love for his friend Lance, though not as overt as Lance, also is evident.
I don't want to give away anything but just let me say, Adam, I think you and those like you have made a greater positive influence on that little part of the sandbox than you will know. Only the future will tell. This book gives someone like me a greater appreciation for what those who serve our country go through when in Afghanistan. What makes this book extra special are the links to all the photos and videos. This is one book in my library that I will read often. It is well worth the purchase. I encourage both authors to continue writing. Thank you both for undertaking this project.
I deployed on a later deployment with SSG Fenner, so was eager to read this 'book' he spoke of. Many Soldiers make many proclamations, most do not see reality. I enjoyed seeing another side to the happy Soldier in my company and understanding some of his statements and depths. My husband read the very first part by Lance, and was struck by the statement, "It is like losing a limb, or part of your heart.." It captured exactly his feelings every time I deploy. Which is educational for me, as SSG Fenner insuniates it is always easier to leave than to stay behind, I feel I have a much clearer picture of what happens to the minds at home.
I got a great kick out of the Army humor and silliness that is such a part of our lives and they are both clear voiced writers, making me feel there in the moments.
A good book that is getting passed around my family.
