The Weeping Chamber (Audible Audio Edition) Sigmund Brouwer Gregg A Rizzo rockandrollbooks Books

This is definitely in my "Top Ten" of Favorite books!!
I think this is my fourth time to read this particular book and each time is more meaningful than the previous!!
This is more than just a historical fiction novel (though it excels in that category in its own right); it draws the reader into the story in a fourth dimension to be a part of the grief and redemption that is singularly told in the backstory of the historical fiction, and it is in this capacity that this book will likely always be in my Top Ten Favorite books!! This book is a not to be missed (paper, kindle, or audible); please read it like no other!!

The Weeping Chamber (Audible Audio Edition) Sigmund Brouwer Gregg A Rizzo rockandrollbooks Books Reviews

I love this book! It was a great story and I loved seeing the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion through the eyes of the main character. This book goes on my keeper shelf and I'll enjoy it again and again. I hope the publisher will keep it in print, especially with the newer cover art with the man holding his head in his hands. The cover is what initially caught my eye and drew me in to see what the story was about.
I am not extremely emotional. This book got me. I read it in one sitting, I was on the verge of tears, and when the book was done, I promptly brought it to my friend and gave it to her to read.

The last week of Christ is masterfully tied to the "last week" of another man. Sigmund Brouwer writes this story's sentimental string through letters of the latter man to his wife.

Read if you are in a mood desiring sentimental love and sacrificial love.
A great work of historical fiction that is filed with a wonderful perspective on what it might have been like to be a visitor is Jerusalem during Passover week prior to the death of Christ. Brouwer does a great job of creating a compelling character with a heart wrenching story that happens to be the passerby and narrator of our story. Thoroughly recommended.
Though a wealthy merchant, Simeon of Cyrene feels his life is not worth living. His wife wants nothing to do with him while his son is dead from a warehouse inferno that crippled his daughter. He considers suicide as an escape from the torture that eats at his soul as his work no longer comforts him. Simeon begs his wife to forgive him and take him back, but has no hope as he knows she blames him for the tragedies.
Simeon travels to Jerusalem on business with an old friend. This enables him to observe the controversy over the teacher Jesus. He finds comfort and even hope in the words and teachings by example of Jesus, but also fears for the life of the kind hearted soul as the Roman and Jewish religious and secular leaders press the masses to support the death of Jesus. When he learns of the resurrection, Simeon has to see for himself for if Jesus can rise from the dead and forgive those who killed him surely he can continue to seek forgiveness and a second chance from his wife and daughter.
This is a deep look at Jesus' last days from the perspective of Simeon, an individual who believes that he deserves to die for what he did to his family. The age comes to life mostly through Simeon's depressed eyes though readers will wonder how Jesus feels especially since the release of the Gibson film. Sigmund Brouwer stays with his main theme of one lonely depressed soul's efforts for redemption from his family may come because of the light Jesus shines on him and others in first century Jerusalem.

The story of Simeon...the man who carried Jesus' cross, and how his encounter with Jesus gave him strength and courage to believe and begin to live again despite the sorrows that drove him to attempt to take his own life. The description of the sufferings of Jesus was portrayed so vividly and pained me to read it--I felt myself experience the grief and sorrow one would feel if they were physically present at the actual event.

This is a "must-read" book for every Christian...and even a non-Christian would glean a deeper understanding of the crucifixion of Christ and its meaning for mankind. A very beautiful and touching story...I read it while smiling through tears at the ending.
This is one book I love to read every year, beginning on Palm Sunday. The reason for the beginning date is obvious as you get into the book--that's when Chapter 1 begins. And you aren't you far into the book before you realize that the main character, Simeon, is intending to kill himself. He blames himself for the death of his only son and severe injury of his daughter, Vashti, in a disasterous fire in Cyrene. He's certain his beloved wife and daughter also blame him and hate him.
As he goes through the week, he hears of the Prophet in town who is healing people, and his hopes rise. He makes it a point to talk to the Man, Jesus, offering Him all his considerable riches if Jesus will only heal Vashti. Jesus tells Simeon to come back when Simeon understands who He (Jesus) is. Simeon goes away disheartened.
Now, I could tell you the rest of the story, but I won't. Yes, this Simeon is the one who carries Jesus' cross on the way to Golgotha. Yes, there is a happy ending. But you're going to have to read this man's progress through despair and disbelief to joyous recognition of the Savior. It's a fitting and beautiful tribute to the Lord. It's compelling, a page-turner---and yet, I hope you'll resist the urge to read it too fast. You'd miss so much.
A truly beautiful book, beautifully written, the plot beautifully executed, the historical setting so skillfully developed. It is hard to find the words to adequately express the emotions and the wonder that this story has elicited in me. I urge you to read this book. I enthusiastically recommend it. You will love it.
